Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
In this book, Turid identifies what she calls calming signals: "signals used by dogs to prevent things from happening, from avoiding threats from people and dogs to calming down nervousness and fear." Turid goes on to explain how dogs use calming signals, and how we, as dog owners, can use them as well with our own dogs.

2 out of 5 stars feeling guilty about this review   November 22, 2008
rebelette (ny)
so many good reviews- I dont know, this book was a no-brainer. I mean body language for dogs is simular to adults sort of. I was really surprised this book was like a brochure very thin -if it had more solutions than explainations Id found it helpful..maybe I was looking for a solutions based book instead and not a book about the language of dogs- I barked up the wrong tree on this one... wish I could say it was a good purchase but for me - it wasnt

4 out of 5 stars It opened my eyes to a whole new world   October 18, 2008
M. Barnes (Oak Ridge, TN)
This little book (and an accompanying video) opened my eyes to a new world (for me!!) I knew little of dog body language at the time, and most of what I had been told was erroneous. I use the "calming signals" knowledge routinely with my dogs, particularly because my Airedale, Border Terrier, and Blue Heeler live inside with me and can really cause chaos. I have learned to read what the dogs are saying to each other and to me. And it has motivated me to both read and study dog behavior -- a fascinating subject. This was the beginning of a better dog trainer and most importantly a much better dog owner.

I was very disappointed in this book. I expected to learn much much more. There was no depth or insight in this book.

2 out of 5 stars Calm dogs equal good dogs   September 13, 2008
Australian Canine Psychology Centre (Australia)
A light book with some good advice but not a book that should be taken in its entirety as a failsafe "How to".
Some of the advice is vague and some of the behavioural signals written about are confusing as too are many of the guides.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!   September 12, 2008
Karen A. Gendron (Klamath Falls OR)
When I saw this online I thought it would be interesting but I underestimated just how good and how helpful this little book is to me! I am using the information to understand my dogs better and to respect their boundaries and needs. They bring so much to my life, it is only fair for me to be more understanding of their behaviors. This book helps one to know what dogs are thinking and feeling and communicating. Thank you!
