Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Waving the tri-colored flay of his native Switzerland, the Bernice Mountain Dog stops the crowd with his attractive jet black, rich red and white coat and his outgoing, good-natured smile. Fanciers regard the Bernese Mountain Dog as the most friendly and warm-hearted of all Working dogs. His heritage as a resourceful farm dog and drafting dog recommends him as a handyman about the home as well as an attractive watchdog. Though successful in the show ring, with his confident manner, his silky, shimmering coat and striking coloration, the Bernese is primarily a family dog, kind and devoted. His trainability and affinity for the kids make him one of the most desirable companion dogs in the world.

This new book provides an insightful look at the history and characteristics of the Bernese Mountain Dog as well as the breed standard. The author provides everything an owner needs to know about puppy selection and care, feeding, grooming, obedience training and health care and maintenance. New owners will welcome the authors advice about housebreaking, puppy-proofing the home and preventing puppy problems. In addition to its comprehensive text, this book presents over 135 color photographs, which prove to be as informative as they are attractive.

3 out of 5 stars Just an "Okay book"   March 29, 2005

I bought this book in hopes it would offer some good information about Bernese Mountain Dogs. Instead, I felt I could be reading about most any dog breed (generic) with a few breed specific notes included.

There are better books on the market for Bernese lovers than this book. Try Bernd Gunters book, "Bernese Mountain Dog: A Dog Of Destiny" or the book called "The Beautiful Bernese" by Russ&Rogers. If you want a good Bernese puppy book, try Julia Crawford's "BMD: An Owners Guide to a Happy, Healthy Pet".

If you're a hardcore Berner lover, you could add this book to your collection. But if you're looking for really useful breed specific information, look elsewhere.
