Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Well written Berner book with great historical value   September 5, 2005
Paddy Petch's Bernese Mountain Dog explores the origins of the Bernese with special emphasis on this breed's entry into the United Kingdom. This information is delivered complete with detailed information like Kennel Owners, locations and various pedigrees. It also details how various U.K. pedigrees/kennels and Clubs were established.

For those interested in the history of the Bernese breed, this book is a MUST HAVE.

If that weren't enough, this book also covers all sorts of information toward breeding and general pet ownership helps by including discussions on health and health issues, growth and development, showing, performance events and more. Some of the information is out-dated, but most of this book remains very relevant to the Bernese breed today.

For me, the historical value alone was well worth this book's purchase price.

New breeders (and experienced breeders, too) would find this book a very useful tool.

The average pet Berner buyer may not find this book as useful, unless they have a huge interest in the history of this breed as it developed in the U.K. and/or the detailing of various ailments associated with the Berner breed.

I highly recommend this book for any aspiring Bernese breeder and to those who are looking to problem-solve health issues in their Berner.
